We All Want To Be Loved

Sermon Notes

God is a good Father, and we can learn a lot from studying Him.

John 1:14 NIV

The Word (Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Incarnation means to make something concrete and real; or literally, “to take on flesh”.

Hebrews 1:3 NIV

The Son (Jesus) is the radiance of God’s (The Father’s) glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty (The Father) in heaven.

When God wanted us to know Him and His love, He entered our world.

1 John 1:1 NIV

That which was from the beginning (Jesus), which we have heard (Jesus), which we have seen with our eyes (Jesus), which we have looked at and our hands have touched (Jesus)—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

And that ongoing love can change us … slowly.

John 13:23 NIV

One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.

Incarnational parenting is where our children’s identities are completely reshaped by the present and active love of a faithful parent!

The question to ask: how is my family experiencing me on a regular basis?

Luke 15:1 NIV

Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus.

Matthew 11:19 NIV

“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.’”

“Adulting” is caught as much as it is taught, because kids mime what they experience.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 NIV

Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

The highest goal of every parent is to share in the blessings of eternal life in their children.
