Vision Sunday 2025

Pastor Matt discusses Jesus' parable of the talents from Luke 19, emphasizing the importance of faithfully using what God has entrusted to us. Then, he spends some time celebrating all God did in and through Kingsway in 2024. The sermon concludes with a call for the congregation to prayerfully consider contributing to our Relentless Pursuit campaign to further expand our ministry efforts in 2025.

Sermon Notes

Luke 19:10 NIV

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

We want to become more like Jesus. This means we too, want to seek and save the lost.

Luke 19:11 NIV

While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.

Luke 19:27 NIV

“But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”

This is no laughing matter. Those who take Jesus seriously will take His challenge seriously.

Luke 19:12 NIV

He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return.”

Luke 19:13 NIV

“So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’”

The mina was a Greek coin worth a hundred drachmas, so roughly a hundred days’ wages.

Between now and the return of Jesus our King, He expects us to put His money to work.

Luke 19:14 NIV

“But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’”

This appears to be here in this story to remind us that during the period of Jesus’s absence, not everyone will be working for Him or looking forward to His return.

Luke 19:15 NIV

“He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.”

Luke 19:16-17 NIV

“The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’

“ ‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’”

Luke 19:18-19 NIV

“The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’

“His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’”

The reward for faithful service is increased responsibility.

Luke19:20-21 NIV

“Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’”

Luke 19:22-23 NIV

“His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’”

God is able to bring something from nothing!

Luke19:24 NIV

“Then he said to those standing by, ‘Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’”

Luke 19:25-26 NIV

“‘Sir,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’

“He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.”

How do we know if we are doing God’s work while we wait for His return?
