Psalm 33

 Sermon Notes

The crazier this world gets, the louder the righteous sing!

 Psalms 33:1-3 NIV

"Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy."

Praise God for who He is:

Psalms 33:4-5 NIV

"For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love."

Praise God as the Creator of all:

Psalms 33:6-9 NIV

"By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm."

Praise God for His Sovereignty:

Psalms 33:10-11 NIV

"The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations."

Psalms 33:12 NIV

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance."

 Galatians 6:7-8 NIV

"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."

Praise God that He watches over us:

Psalms 33:13-15 NIV

"From heaven, the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth— he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do."

 Psalms 33:16-17 NIV

"No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save."

 Psalms 33:18-19 NIV

"But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine."

Be bold in the things of God and Humble in the things of man.

Psalms 33:20-22 NIV

"We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you."

"Oh, my God… Help!  Our nation, our city, our schools, and our homes need you now more than ever.  We know that you are watching and searching for those whose trust is in you.  My God, when you look down here may you find Me, and find that I fear you. Sometimes, I find it hard to trust and to wait on you Lord, so please help me in my unbelief.  Increase my dependence on you and make me bold in the things of God and humble in the things of man.  May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!"
