June 11 - Daily Pause

Read: Psalm 139:19-24
Reflection: David poetically pens one of the most beautiful and familiar Psalms of all and then suddenly turns on a dime in verse 19. Why the shift in tone? Don't we often pray in the same way? We begin by praising God, thanking Him, and then we shift to our asks that can almost seem like demands. David's vengeful request reflects our sinful, human side. But how quickly he asks God to search his heart for any offensive way or anxious thought. Are any offensive ways or anxious thoughts living in you that God may want to deal with? Ask God to search your heart to see what He reveals in you. Jot down whatever the Spirit brings to mind.
Prayer: God, thank you that You know me so well. Thank you that you're a big enough God that I can bring before you every emotion without shame. I ask that you would truly search my heart and reveal in me what is contrary to Your Spirit. Lead me down the good path You have laid out for me. Amen.
