READ: Matthew 7:13-14

REFLECTION: Wide gates and small gates. Broad roads and narrow roads. It’s important what type of road you choose. A luxury car isn’t built for off-road terrain. An 18-wheeler isn’t designed for tight spaces. In these two short verses, Jesus petitions us to choose the right road, to walk through the right gate. While the wide gate and the broad road is taken by many and can at times, seem enticing and an easy choice, Jesus shows us that the narrow gate, the gate that leads to His Kingdom, leads to life. In John 10:9, Jesus refers to Himself as the gate. The narrow gate not only leads to life, it is life. In the creation account in Genesis, we see so much life. God’s heart was that of life, life with Him. You and I, we were created for life with Him, so, even when it’s hard, let’s take the road we were created for.

PRAYER: Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you want me to choose the small gate and the narrow road. You want me to choose you. Help me to be intentional about the path I take rather than getting caught up in the convenient or the easy. Holy Spirit, give me the strength and courage to live how I was created to live and to be who you created me to be. Help me to choose the road that leads to life and encourage others to do the same. In Jesus name, amen.
