READ: Matthew 5:33-37
REFLECTION: In this passage, Jesus reminds us of the importance of being truthful – a message as powerful and relevant today as in Jesus’ time. He explains that we should not have to promise anyone or anything because our word alone should be enough. As Christians, we are called to live a life that reflects Christ and that includes being someone who is known as being honest and truthful. Are you someone who is trustworthy in your personal life? In your business dealings? If you say you will do something, do those around you feel confident you will follow through? Consider all your interactions and take a moment of honest reflection to think about how others view you. If you see areas where there is a need to improve, commit to changes that will bring glory to God.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for your reminder of how important it is to be truthful in all I say and do. Please stir in me a desire to live a life that reflects you and that makes the need for “promises” unnecessary because no one who knows me would doubt my sincerity. Help develop in me a longing to continually strive to become more and more like you. In Jesus name, Amen
